SERVICE & PHILANTHROPY
In its very early years, Rotary was quick to realize that fellowship alone would not sustain a group and keep them together. There needed to be a purpose. The first service project was to buy a horse for a preacher in Chicago whose horse had died! Before too long, "THE OBJECT OF ROTARY" was born.
The object of Rotary is to “encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” How do we attempt to fulfill this object?
-
The development of an acquaintance as an opportunity for service.
-
High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and dignifying by each Rotarian of his or her occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
-
The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his or her personal, business and community life.
-
The advancement of international understanding, good will and peace through a world of fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of service.
The Lebanon Breakfast Rotary Club continually seeks additional ways to serve the community and the world. Some of what we do is through "service", the rest through "philanthropy".
